Navalny was put in prison in Moscow last weekend, when he returned from Germany, after receiving treatment for novichok poisoning.
Currently, the Russian police have detained more than 2500 people involved in holding illegal demonstrations and mass protests across various regions, including a prison in Moscow, where Navalny is currently detained. Last weekend, Navalny’s wife, Yulia Navalnaya, was arrested when she led a rally in Moscow but was soon released, according to the Russian media.
No cancellation or postponement of Olympics, say Japanese Officials
The Olympics, scheduled for 2020 in Tokyo, was moved to 2021, due to the pandemic. While everyone waits for the gala event to kick-start on July 23rd this year, a Times report has surprised many. The news stated that “the officials are currently considering hosting the Olympics in 2032”. This is because Paris and Los Angeles have already been chosen to host the 2024 and 2028 Olympics, respectively.

AstraZeneca announced that it would be cutting the COVID-19 delivery to the EU by 60%. The company had promised to roll out around 80m vaccine doses to the 27 EU nations by March this year. As a result, it has announced that it can only roll out 31m doses by March. The Health Commissioner of the EU expressed extreme dissatisfaction and frustration at this announcement.
