Maui firefighters put out a car fireplace on the baseyard of Haiku-based nonprofit Malama Hamakua Maui at about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

Malama Hamakua Maui mentioned the hearth was set deliberately and thanked firefighters for his or her fast response.

“We have been working tirelessly for the past few years as a nonprofit, and in partnership with the County, have facilitated the towing of over 42 cars from this very area along with countless amounts of illegally dumped trash,” the nonprofit mentioned. “The area in which the car was deliberately set on fire is exactly where the community gathers to work together. Keiki paint signs asking people to Malama the Aina, lunch is served from local donors, and local residents and visitors alike band together to make a difference.”

The Fire Department confirmed the incident was restricted to a automobile fireplace and was extinguished shortly.
