University of Michigan Medical School boycotts U.S. News & World Report rankings

ANN ARBOR – The University of Michigan Medical School introduced on Monday it would now not participate within the annual rating of medical colleges by U.S. News & World Report.

School officers stated the way in which USNWR ranks medical colleges has been a priority for a while.

“The fundamental problem is that an aggregated score, based on many different dimensions, cannot possibly help students or others evaluate institutions with respect to their individual priorities,” Marschall S. Runge, dean of the U-M Medical School, CEO of Michigan Medicine and government vice chairman of medical affairs for the University of Michigan stated in an announcement.

“Creating an overall ranking blurs each school’s individual attributes into a single score or rank that only reflects priorities set by USNWR itself.”

In November 2022, Michigan Law introduced its determination to now not take part within the USNWR rankings for comparable causes.

By withdrawing its participation, the U-M Medical School will now not present USNWR with knowledge. According to a launch, the choice was made following discussions with college leaders, school and college students.
