The question asked by many is what’s Pope Francis doing in Iraq, and walking through some narrow alleyways in the holy city just to hold a meeting with Shiite clerics.
Apparently, the Holy Father went to visit the birthplace of Abraham early Saturday morning, as he condemned all violence in the name of the Lord God, he called it “the greatest blasphemy in history”.
He held 2 meetings approximately 125 miles apart, 1 in a very narrow and dusty City, and the 2nd was in a desert plain, which many are saying that “his trip actually reinforced the key theme of his dangerous and risky venture to Iraq and that the country” who certainly suffered way too much.
Pope Francis was quoted as saying “ from this particular place, weird faith was born, in the land of Our Father Abraham let us affirm that God is merciful and that the greatest blasphemy is to profane His Name by hating our brothers and sisters”.
All this was seen and heard as the Desert Winds continued to blow the Pope’s robe as Pope Francis met with Muslims and Christians alike, which included leaders of Yazidi.
Pope Francis spoke to his audience who were very close to the 4000-year-old pyramids, and the City of Ziggurats, which consists of many residential dwellings as well as holy temples and places of worship.
In a country that was torn with extreme violence, just hours earlier, Pope Francis met-up with Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, as observers were heard saying that “the visit is the most powerful of signals for coexistence in a nation that was torn by extreme violence”.
If you’re not aware of the history between the United States and Iraq, I will explain it to you. It all started back when the United States of America invaded Iraq in 2003 and placed them in many years of conflict.
Yes, security seems to have increased or improved ever since the defeat of the Islamic State back in 2017, however, conflicts in Iraq continue to be a theater for the world and Regional, a better way to put it, score-settling if you will. Specifically, the bitter Iranian and United States rivalry that seems to be playing out on rocky borders and soil to this day.
How can this meeting of the Pope and the Supreme leaders of the Muslim Community help the people of Iraq? well, as some say “Only Heaven Knows”.
